Summary:
Italy is currently finalising the design of its capacity remuneration mechanism. The provisional capacity payment, introduced in 2004, is to be replaced by a market-wide reliability option scheme. This paper provides an in-depth description of the Italian mechanism and presents a critical analysis of its design.
